How Adsense Revenue Actually Works?

Adsense has both CPC and CPM-based revenue model. Now let me explain the terminology that we use on Adsense first;
  1. CPC – Cost Per Click – Varies anywhere between $0.02 to $1 (Max. it can go up to $100 as well but in very rare cases.)
  2. CPM – Cost per 1000 Impressions.
  3. RPM – Revenue per 1000 Impressions.
  4. CTR – Click Through Rate – Clicks per 100 impressions. Varies anywhere between 1% to 10% based on your niche and ad placement.
  5. The other terms like Pageviews, Impressions and Earnings; which I guess are pretty much straight forward.

CTR = (Number of ad clicks * 100) / Number of page views
If my blog has 10,000 pageviews per month and 800 AdSense ad clicks, then my CTR is 0.8%.
CTR = (800 * 100) / 10000 = 0.8%
Most of the ads on Google Adsense are Cost Per Click based. That means you get paid whenever a visitor clicks on your ads(You are not allowed to click on your own Ads, it might lead to a permanent BAN). There are very few ads that are CPM based that means you get paid even though a visitor doesn’t click and just view the ad, but these ad formats are very less, and most of the advertisers avoid these ad formats.

How much money can you actually make from Adsense?

It depends on a lot of factors and out of all these the primary factors are CPC and CTR. CPC varies from niche to niche and also depends on the geographic location of your audience. If you are getting traffic from Tier-1 countries like US, UK, Canada, Australia, etc, then your CPC is likely to be high. But if in case you are receiving traffic from Tier 2 and Tier 3 countries CPC would be low.
CPC also depends on the keywords that you are targeting. If you are targeting keywords related to Gadgets, Health, etc., the CPC tends to be high because there is a lot of competition among advertisers in those sectors. So, if you are in a less competitive niche like the entertainment or education, that too in India then obviously your CPC will be very less.
So, lets suppose you have good CPC, and that doesn’t end there. You need a good CTR as well; that means you want more people to click on your ads. This depends on a lot of factors like Ad Placement, Source of Traffic, Web Page Loading time and a lot many other factors.
It all depends on these two factors. Combing these two a simple term is used to understand how well our ads are performing and its called RPM.

Page RPM = (Estimated earnings / Number of page views) * 1000
Estimated Earnings = CPC * Total Number of Clicks
                                         = CPC * CTR*100
Ops, don’t panic. Am not teaching you any formula, and you don’t need any. You just have to look at the RPM.
Lets suppose like your RPM is $2 then you must be making around $2/1000 pageviews.
Then if you are receiving about 10,000 page views you should be able to make $20.
So, if your RPM is $5, then you would make $50 for every 10,000 page views.
If in case your blog is receiving an average of 10,000 pageviews per day which means 3,00,000 pageviews per month at an RPM of $3, the calculation goes as follows;
Total Revenue = RPM * Pageviews/1000 = 5*300 = 1500.
You should able to make about $1500 per month. So, now I hope you understand how to calculate the earning

Ringing Bells’ Freedom 251, dubbed the world’s cheapest smartphone with Android Lollipop OS and 3G support, has generated interest but also raised some serious questions about the device and the company.

Since the launch thousands of people, 25 lakh to be precise if you go by Ringing Bells’ claim, have booked these phones at Rs 251 despite the website crashing through the two-day sale. Now the company has decided to stop taking orders.
Interestingly the Department of Telecom (DoT) has said a device cannot be manufactured for less than Rs 2,300, and BJP MP Kirit Somaiya even branded it as a scam.

Now the Noida company has woken up and come up with some answers to the questions India is asking. Here are some of the answers, which we’ve edited for clarity.
1. There seems to be a problem with the payment gateway while ordering the phone from the freedom251.com website. Why and how soon will it be resolved? Have the sales stopped permanently?
Ringing Bells’ response: This problem occurred on the morning of February 18, consequent to the “pleasant” deluge of viewers where even the high performance servers of our payment gateway and our main server providers could not cope. [There were 20 lakh requests on 18/2 at peak load and total no of Registrations received on the day were 3,70,15,000]
We addressed the problem on a ‘war footing’ and with the help of our associates, were back on-line by 06.00 hrs by morning of 19/2. Registrations have continued smoothly thereafter.

How to waste your day trying to buy the Freedom 251

2. How many handsets have been sold so far?

Ringing Bells’ response: 30,000 plus and these were on Day 1 reflecting the fact that our payment gateway could not support the transaction load. As per guidelines, the payments are deposited in the nodal account with the payment gateway, where the Company will claim payment only after submission of delivery proof.

We have 3.70 crore registrations on Day 1 + 2.47 crore on Day 2 as of 19:49 hrs.

3. Why has Freedom 251 got Adcom branding on the front panel? Is it being manufactured by Adcom? And why was the branding covered by a whitener? What was that for? Even if it was just for demo, and a sample phone, why did the company give out another company’s product? Why could not they just order fresh samples from where ever they were trading?

Ringing Bells’ response: We just wanted to show a sample/prototype of what the handsets will look like. This is not the final piece. Hence, we obviously wanted to provide “Made in India” handsets as that is the core of our vision.

We did a quick and intensive search and located the components but regarding the Touch Plate, we faced a problem in view of the fragile nature in addition to the scratch-proof requirements of the piece.

ADCOM is an India Company and we were able to source from them. In view of the shortage of time and given that these were to serve only as prototypes given to a limited List of persons, we went ahead.

We would clearly mention that the Final Freedom 251 manufactured/ assembled in India will have identical specs – i.e. no change. There maybe some changes in curvature/ buttons placements for aesthetics, if at all.

4. Deeper media investigation suggests Adcom is a local manufacturer of IT products, and their spokesperson had no clue that their product is being re-branded and sold like this. This can be a potential lawsuit.

Ringing Bells’ response: You may speak to Mr Sanjiv Bhatia – the Director of ADCOM – and he will confirm the true version to you.

5. The promised pre-loaded apps for Fisherman, Farmers and Women’s Safety are not present on the mobile handset media received

Ringing Bells’ response: These will be on the “Final Freedom 251” with our custom designed new UI.

6. The user interface icons are exactly like Apple iPhone including icons like web browsers etc which can be construed as copyright infringement

Ringing Bells’ response: As will be noted on a closer look, that the UI, even on the prototype, is not identical to Apple. In any case, we will have our custom designed new UI for our Final Freedom 251.

7. The phone is not listed on the BIS certifications page, why is this?

Ringing Bells’ response: Application is under filing, and we expect to have the Certification in hand well before delivery commences.

8. All 3G devices are supposed to be registered with Qualcomm as part of the licensing agreement but the Freedom 251 is not showing up, why is this?

Ringing Bells’ response: At present we are using Spreadtrum Chip set, then why do we need to register with Qualcomm?

9. The phone is running on Android, but is not showing in a list on Android partners either. Why is this?

Ringing Bells’ response:We are registered with Google Android Developers Platform.

10. Can we provide a list of customer care centres promised? Media is getting queries from customers about customer care centres, only details they have found as customer support is email and phone number. Attached.

11. If the actual phone is not ready, why was a re-branded different phone given to the media. Is the much hyped Freedom 251 a concept in the air only? Ringing Bells’ response: When we design a concept, we produce a prototype to demonstrate. Then we test the acceptability from the Target Audience.Once this is accepted, we take this Prototype to the Design House to design the Chipset; the mould and then we decide on the actual add-ons like the buttons – the colour – screen quality etc. We did not distribute the Handsets, we handed-over the prototypes to assess the acceptability and validate our concept.

12. How is Indian government partnering with a company with no proven track record? BJP MP Kirit Somaiya has raised questions and written to both TRAI and Min. of Telecom to investigate the issue. This follows mobile industry body Indian Cellular Association (ICA) letter to Telecom Minister Ravi Ravi Shankar Prasad yesterday to get into depth of the issue, saying the rate could not be below Rs 3,500 even after a subsidised sale. Ringing Bells’ response: The Indian Government is not partnering the Company. We will comply with all required regulations of TRAI & Telecom Authorities in India.

13. What about the other handsets? People have been complaining about no delivery or even an order confirmation? Is this just a con game? Ringing Bells’ response: We have delivered Rs 1.7 crores worth of phones so far. In addition, PayU [Payment Gateway] has received Rs 1.75 crores against our Handset On-Line Bookings of Phase 1 and here, as we have committed, we will claim our money only after we complete delivery on Feb 25, 2016 and after we submit Proof of Delivery.

14. Some media persons reaching the Ringing Bells Pvt. Ltd Noida office found it to be deserted. Is it even a genuine company with manufacturing plant? Ringing Bells’ response: Our Corporate Office is at B44, Sector 63, Noida 201301. All are welcome to come to our Office and we will be privileged to greet you.

Websites ranking

     shows you which one is more popular (more viewable by internet users)!
The ranking of these websites is based on Alexa's statistics. Websites with a rank closer to the top (number 1) are so to speak more popular than others because they seemingly have more traffic, meaning more people view these websites, meaning they update frequently, meaning you WANT to go visit those websites.

How does a website get its rank ?

Enter Your Site In the Search Box

People download and install Alexa's toolbar. The toolbar collects information from the user's browser and sends it to Alexa's servers.
There, this information is being stored, analyzed and categorized. Thus granting every website a number which represents its location among others in the world.

     The websites that Google ranks on the 1st page of of its search results for any given search term are the ones that they consider to be the most relevant and useful. They determine which websites are the most useful and relevant by using a complex algorithm (mathematical process) which takes into account 200+ different factors.
    Google doesn’t let people know what those factors are, however, through a combination of research, testing and experience, a good Google SEO consultant knows what the most important factors are. For example, most SEOs would agree that the following are all important ranking factors…

*     Keyword usage
*     Site structure
*     Site speed
*     Time spent on site
*     Number of inbound links
*     Quality of inbound links

The algorithm is designed and set-up by humans, however, the rankings given to websites are wholly determined by the outcome of the algorithm. There’s no manual intervention by humans to adjust the rankings specific websites are given by the algorithm.
The website ranked in 1st place is the website that the algorithm has given the best score to when taking into account the 200+ factors. Google is constantly reviewing, adjusting and updating its search results, so a website that is ranked 1st today could potentially not even be on the 1st page next week.
If a website stays where it is, rises or falls in the search results is dependent on one overall consideration – how it compares to the websites it is competing with i.e. the other websites who want to rank for the keywords that it wants to rank for.
So, for example, if a website that is ranked on the 4th page for a particular keyword phrase decides to improve its site structure, add new content and seek out new high quality backlinks, whilst the websites on the 1st – 3rd pages of the search results don’t also make improvements, then the website on the 4th page will rise in the rankings.

How much it rises is dependent on the existing authority and quality of the sites above it and how much value Google’s algorithm places on the value of the improvements that have been made to the website. It could rise up just a couple of positions or it could rise straight to the no.1 position.
There’s no magic button that an SEO can press that guarantees a no.1 ranking, however, by paying attention to the factors that the algorithm places value on, and actively working to improve them, they can guarantee to improve your website’s rankings in Google.

Once upon a time search engines looked at words. Over the years the movement has been towards concepts. Or as the new mantra goes, “things not strings
Yes, indeed, the words on the page do come into play, but more often than not, it is more aboutidentifying the concepts of a page or a website. This helps them better deliver results in a commonly more personalized world.
   The goal of this article is to give you a sense of the core concepts used in modern search. This is nota guide to Google. Nor Bing. It is a starting point to better understand the landscape so that you might venture out to discover more.

Corralling the Wild, Wild Web

While this journey is more about the elements of ranking a page or a site, one really can’t get to that point without the page actually being found. The two obvious elements are;

§ Crawling: The ability for the search engine to get around the site
§ Indexing: Actually getting pages into the search engine’s index.
    These days most of this can be handled by automated tools provided by the major search engines. At least to let them know you exist.

What’s not quite as evident is the level and depth of the crawling and indexation given to a website. This can often be attributed some various on-site and off-site factors we’ll be looking at shortly.

Google’s Matt Cutts has a nice video worth watching;
Understanding Signals
First things first: signals. It is strangely a commonly bandied about term in the world of SEO. But often misunderstood.

A search engine can use signals for many things including categorization, geo-localization, behavioral, demographic, and more. Not just for ranking purposes. Some might be used as signals of quality (task completion) while others used in display elements in the search results.

Where things get interesting are the various page-level signals and site-wide signals. How a search engines “views” your site on the web. In the strictest understanding of “ranking factors”, these might not always be considered, but indeed are important concepts.
In simplest terms these can include:

  1. Site-Level Signals:
  2. §     Authority/Trust
  3. §  Classifications
  4. §  Internal link ratios
  5. §  Localization
  6. §  Entities
  7. §  Domain history
  8. §  Thin content
  9.    Page Level Signals:
  10. §  Meta data
  11. §  Classifications (and Localization)
  12. §  Entities
  13. §  Authority/trust (external links)
  14. §  Temporal signals
  15. §  Semantic signals
  16. §  Linguistic indicators (language and nuances)
§  Prominence factors (bold, headings, italics, lists, etc.)
Off-site Signals:
Ø    Link related signals
Ø    Temporal signals
Ø   Trust elements (known by the company you keep)
Ø   Entity/Authority; citations, co-citation, etc.
Ø    Social graph signals
Ø    Spam signals (that might incur dampening)
Ø   Semantic relevance (of the other signals)

Please do bear in mind, ‘link related’ doesn’t mean PageRank. Links can send a variety of signals, methods like PageRank, being just one.

While we’ll avoid the specifics, you can get a sense that there are a variety of signals a search engine might use to understand what a site and/or a web page is about. And of course what types of elements might be used in scoring search results.
The Land of Graphs

Next stop in our journey is to start understanding some of the various classifications, categorizations, relations, and correlations that a search engine might employ. These days we tend to think of them as “graphs”.

Some of these include;

 Link graph: Most commonly known one to SEO professionals, all the links to sites that determine relevance, authority, and trust.

 Social graph: Connections, topicality, behavioural data, etc.

Entity graph: People, places, things, events, etc. (named entities).

 Knowledge graph: Information related to entities.

Term and taxonomy graphs.

Where this can play into rankings is that Google categorizes the relations and can score and re-rank web pages through these graph relations. Consider things such as co-citation, topical link graphs, social associations toward authority, and much more.

Get the idea? Yes, I know it can start to get confusing. But for the purposes of this article, we’re keeping it simple and moving fast here. Just fire up the desire to learn more. That’s the goal here.

What I hope is emerging is that there’s a whole lot going on under the hood. There’s an entire article that could dig into each of the points above. Never fall for the simple answers when trying to understand what’s happening to your site and your target query spaces.

Understanding Ranking Mechanisms
So now let’s move along to why we’re here. To get a better sense of how a search engine might rank web pages in today’s environment. Again, I am trying to get you moving down the tracks to wanting to learn more. This is the tip of the proverbial iceberg.
Simple concepts:
Scoring:
The major search engines use hundreds of factors nestled into many algorithms. Think about it like an onion and it’s layers. All too often, people say things like “the Google algorithm” when in fact, there are many. The scoring over all of them makes up the initial rankings.

Boosting:

This is another element or signal that might raise a page’s position in the rankings. One example is a statement Google made that fast mobile sites are given a boost in mobile search. Various forms of personalization also use a boosting element to re-rank results.
Dampening:
Not to be confused with penalties, a dampening factor is an element that would lower the rankings of a web page after the initial scoring process. One example is the now infamous Google Penguin or Panda algorithms. While it may seem like a penalty, it is in fact a dampening element.

Now we’re getting somewhere right? We consider the various on site signals, off site signals and graphs (link, social, entity, knowledge). Within each of those, there are ranking and scoring mechanisms at play that are affecting where a website appears in the results.
Personalization and the World of Flux
While the path so far may seem daunting, it’s about to get a little more convoluted
Once upon a time, life was simple. We had 10 blue links. Those links were by and large stable no matter who searched it nor where they were at the time. No longer.
The shift started most notably with Google back in 2004. At the time it was in Google Labs and users could identify preferences. By 2009, they unleashed it on the world for all users. That flavor used search history and behaviour to adapt the results.

The Web Spam Connection
     While we might not ultimately consider it as a ranking element, web spam does bear a mention along the ride. While it may not be something that can increase your rankings, it sure can lower or demolish them. So may for the sake of this article, we might consider them as “ways a search engine un-ranks a web page”.

     Web spam is the term used to those that seek to manipulate the search results. As with all things in information retrieval and SEO, there are a multitude of methods they might use and associated scoring that we don’t really know. But at least Google gives us this handy page to get a sense of some things that might be in play.

Some web spam elements might include;
·        Cloaking and/or sneaky redirects
·        Hacked site
·        Hidden text and/or keyword stuffing
·        Parked domains
·        Pure spam
·        Spammy free hosts and dynamic DNS providers
·        Thin content with little or no added value
·        Unnatural links from a site
·        Unnatural links to a site
·        User-generated spam
Again, for more read this article. And if you really want to learn more, you can also dig into this guide to web spam over here.
The point is that we should always consider what affects a ranking of a web page from a negative as well as a positive standpoint.
